Christians are under attack. This is nothing new really. Since Jesus came and established His kingdom on the earth around 2000 years ago His ideas, His kingdom the church, and His followers have been ridiculed, persecuted and even killed. There are many parts of the world even now where Christianity is illegal. However, in my 62 years on this earth I have never seen the open hostility and prejudice we are now viewing in the media and entertainment industries in this country that we are presently being exposed to. Growing up right after the end of world war II, I always felt a sense of respect from our leaders and all forms of the media for our faith in God and the Bible. This has certainly changed. It is not at all uncommon, even in prime time TV, to hear statements which declare a belief in God as stupid, illogical and based upon blind faith as if it has somehow now been universally realized by the enlightened that there is nothing to religion. Also, when such statements are presented they generally come from those who could be described as the smartest and most accepted members of the cast, people who we otherwise like and respect. This of course gives the greatest possible weight to their argument. Three examples which come to mind are “House,” “Bones,” and “Crossing Jordan” however these are just a small sample . But are they correct in what they are saying or are such statements just the product of the liberal Hollywood agenda promoting liberalism and the belief that we have the right to do whatever we like because there is no absolute right or wrong? |
I have been exposed, as I am sure many of you have, to both sides of this issue. It seems to boil down to “The Theory of Evolution” versus “The Bible”. Either everything came into existence by natural process or God is behind it all. Which is the most logical. Let us remember that the 150 year old “theory of evolution” is unproven and in effect cannot be proven as a fact. The Bible however is a collection of historical facts that have never been proven to be wrong. Even the factual existence of miracles is supported by eye witness accounts in the Bible and while we were not there to see for ourselves that they took place neither were we there to see that they did not. From my perspective the weight of the evidence heavily favors that God is real, the Bible is true and therefore it is far more logical to believe in God no matter how often Hollywood and its writers, directors, producers, and actors declare it not to be so. This is no small issue. The destiny of your eternal soul is at stake.
