Our Time Is Now

by: Gary Mullins

James 4:13-15 Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: (14) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (15) For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

How many times during the day do you make plans to do something tomorrow? Or maybe yet, how many times do you make plans to do something a year from now, such as a vacation? Making plans is good. We should make some sort of plans for our future, especially if we ever plan on retiring. But the problem in making plans is most of the time; we leave the Lord out of it. We forget that the Lord has the final say over whether we are allowed to work out the plans we make. We need to remember that our life is very precious and our days are short.

We tend to take time for granted. Time is an element that has total control over our life. We are regulated by time. From birth to death, our entire life is controlled by time. Some peoples allotment of time may be only a few seconds, but others might live for one hundred years, which we tend to look at as a long time. But when we try to realize how long eternity will be, we cannot comprehend it. Eternity is not only something in the future, but it has reference to the past as well.

Psalms 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God”; Mic. 5:2“ God was before anything existed, and will continue to be forever. After death, we shall live eternally somewhere, it is our choice. Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. If we obey God, and do his commandments, we will live with him forever, worshipping him and giving him praise for all eternity. But if we do not obey him, if we neglect his word and his commands, we will reap the rewards that we have sowed, which is everlasting destruction. (2 Th. 1:8-9)

Now is the time that we need to make things right with God. We have time right now. We are not promised that we will take another breath. Once we are planted in the grave, we will be raised again, and receive our rewards. What will yours be?
