We can learn a lot from our kids. Just today, I was watching a show on TV about kids and the funny things that they do. It was a very funny show. One of the few family shows actually on now. After the credits ran, and the show was over, I realized that the show actually had more of an impact on me than just the laughter it produced while watching it. One of the questions that the host asked the kids was "How do YOU think everything got here." One kid said "There was a giant chicken that laid a giant egg and everything came from that." Another said, "There was a big man somewhere other than here that made everything. He made everything with wood, or with metal." One kid finally ended up saying "my mom thinks that monkeys were first then came man." But I think that if I am not mistaken, only one kid said that God made everything. This made me realize something as my own kids were laying in the floor watching this show, as a majority, we are not teaching our kids anything about God. If you could pull a straight answer from them, without them trying to act funny, I know that my children know how everything began. May not understand fully how, I am not even for sure that any of us fully comprehend it. But through faith we know that God framed the worlds, and this was through Jesus Christ, (Heb 11:3, Joh 1:3). What seems like a very simple, elementary school question to me got a vast array of answers. How precious that faith is, when we can take the Word of God, and fully rely upon it. I have no doubt that in Gen 1:1 "In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth" This is exactly what happened. When we think about all of the minute details that we take for granted of how EVERYTHING around works. Even scientists in all of their knowledge and experience do not fully understand the human body, God's ultimate creation. When we think of the preciseness of just this planet, how everything runs just so, and has since the beginning. And by faith we realize that the earth is kept in store until the day of judgment (2 Pet. 3:7), and seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will continue. (Gen 8:22). This is so much different that we are hearing those around us talk today. It is so hot of a topic, that it is a major point of even our presidential election. If we would just listen to God's Word, in all things, because His Word is truth (Joh 17:17). |
The other question the host asked the kids was "If you had three wishes, what would you wish for." Of course, some said money. One little girl said "I don't need wishes, I get everything I want at home." But the ones that really touched my heartstrings, if you will, was the one that said "I wish I had a daddy." And another said "I wish that my family was back together". Of course, I don't know their situation, but I do know this. The family is another area of God's Word that the world, as a whole, is not looking to for guidance in. We see the world, once again as a whole, going about telling those that "Whatever makes me happy is fine, I am the final authority in my happiness." But do we think about the repercussion of our actions. Some of them are exactly what these kids were saying here. I believe that a generation has already come that has little, to no regard for God or His Holy Word. Are we teaching our children that fornication; any relations that are reserved for marriage between male and female only (Heb. 13:4); is a sin? And are we teaching them that such that practice sin will not inherit the kingdom of God? (Gal. 5:19). Fornication is not the only sin listed here, but fits this subject. Are we teaching our kids that marriage is for life? Are we teaching them that divorce is not an option in God's eyes? Jesus only gave one exception to this rule, Mat 5:31-32 KJVR "It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: (32) But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery." We do well here to remember, "Sanctify them through thy truth, thy Word is truth." (Joh 17:17). Will we here God's voice, or will we continue listening to our own voice of reason, (Jer. 10:23).
