All of us believe something. Have you thought about what things you believe and why you believe them? I would like to tell you something about what I and others at the Clintwood Church of Christ have come to believe. First, remember that beliefs are of value only to the extent that they are true. What we believe is based on what the Bible teaches. Jesus said that God’s word is truth (John 17:17), therefore we have great confidence in what we have come to believe. Please compare our beliefs with what the Bible says. If it is the truth then accept it because it is the truth and truth has value. We believe in God. He is the creator (Gen 1:1). There is but one God (Eph 4:6). He is Spirit (John 4:24). He has spoken to us through His Son Jesus Christ (Heb 2:1-2). He sent Christ into the world (Joh 3:16). We believe in Christ. He was with God in the beginning (Gen 1:26). He was born of the virgin Mary (Matt 1). He came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). There is but one Lord (Eph 4:1-3). He died for man’s sins (Rom 5:8). We believe in the Holy Spirit. There is but one Spirit (Eph 4:1-3). He was promised to the Apostles (John 16). He came upon them to give them the power to do miraculous things (Acts 2). The Apostles had the power to lay their hands on other Christians that they also might have miraculous powers (Acts 6:8). He guided the Apostles and others in writing the New Testament (2 Tim 3:16-17). It became the perfect law of liberty (James 1:25). All baptized believers receive the gift of the Spirit (Acts 2:38). |
We believe the Bible. It is God’s word, the truth (Joh 17:17). It was written that we might believe (Joh 20:30-31). Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Rom 10:17. It will stand forever (Matt 24:35). We will be judged by it (John 12:48). We believe the New Testament is binding on us today. The Old Testament is the inspired word of God but not binding on us as Christians (Joh 1:17). The Old Testament was fulfilled and nailed to the cross (Mat 5:17-19). The Old Law was removed that the new might become binding (Heb 9:16-17; 10:9-10). God speaks to us through His Son Jesus (Mat 17:5). We are under the blood of Jesus (Heb 10:4). We believe in the church of the Bible. Christ promised to build it (Matt 16:18). It was established on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). The saved were added to it (Acts 2:47. Christ died for it (Acts 20:28). Christ became the savior of it (Eph 5:23). Christ became its head (Col 1:18). There is but one church (Eph 4:4-5). It wears the name of Christ (Rom 16:16). We believe in the Bible plan of Salvation. The Lord would have one to hear, believe, repent , confess and be baptized (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; Matt 10:32). There are examples in Acts 2, 8, 9,16,22). We believe these things and many others based on God’s word. Study and investigate these matters for yourself and if you have an honest and good heart, you will come to believe them too (Luk 8:15).
